The Allotment System in Finland during the

Swedish period (3)

Björneborgs läns infanteriregemente (Björneborg län Infantry Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1,025 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Björneborg Län.

Tavastehus läns infanteriregemente (Tavastehus län Infantry Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1025 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Tavastehus Län.

Kymmenegårds regemente (fd. Viborgs läns reg.) [Kymmenegård Regiment (formerly Viborg Län Reg.)]

The Viborg Län regiment was originally allotted with 1,000 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Viborg Län. The numbers in the table below show the strength of the regiment after the peace in Nystad in 1721 when Sweden ceded a major part of Viborg län as well as the southern part of Kexholm Län to Russia. This means that a major part of the territorial area the regiment had for its “rotar” drastically was reduced. At this time the regiment also changed its name from Viborg Län Regiment to Kymmenegård Regiment. Prior to 1721 the regiment counted 1000 soldiers, but after 1721 only 553. After the peace in Åbo in 1743 further land of the regimental territory was ceded to Russia. This time parts of Kymmenegård Län (the area east of the western branch of the Kymmene River) and parts of Savolax (Nyslott with adjoining areas of Savolax by Lake Saimen). After 1743 the regiment only counted 92 soldiers. The Regiment after the Peace in Nystad in 1721 (after the Great Northern War):

Savolax regemente (Savolaxs Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1,037 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Savolax and the western part of Nyslott Län.

Regiment Register

Map of the Finnish Län according to the 1634 Swedish Constitution. The register below shows per regiment how many ”rotar/rusthåll” each regiment had in the respective parish (socken). The register also shows which companies these ”rotar/rusthåll” belonged to. Regarding the names of the parishes and their spelling, see the Parish Register. I have translated the names of the regiments into English. However, I have also kept the Swedish names of the regiments including the names of the companies. When you research the General Muster Rolls it is important to know the Swedish names of the regiments and companies in order to find them in the rolls.
The ”Numbers” in the No column in the tables below shows the total number of soldiers per parish and company.

Infantry Regiments

Åbo läns infanteriregemente (Åbo län Infantry Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1,025 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Åbo Län and southern Satagunda.

Nylands infanteriregemente (Nyland Infantry Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1025 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Nyland Län and to a certain amount also in Tavastehus Län.

Österbottens regemente (Österbotten Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1200 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Österbotten Län (from 1733).

Cavalry Regiments

Map of the Finnish Län according to the 1634 Swedish Constitution. The ”Numbers” in the No column in the tables below shows the total number of soldiers per parish and company.

Åbo och Björneborgs läns kavalleriregemente (Åbo and Björneborg Län Cavalry Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1000 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Åbo and Björneborg Län.

Nylands och Tavastehus läns kavalleriregemente (Nyland and Tavastehus län Cavalry Regiment)

The regiment was allotted with 1000 soldiers and organized into 8 companies in Nyland and Tavastehus Län.

Viborgs och Nyslotts läns kavalleriregemente (Viborg and Nyslott Län Cavalry Regiment)

The regiment was originally allotted with 1000 cavalrymen and organized into 8 companies in Viborg Län and Nyslott Län (provinces Karelia and Savolax). The numbers in the table below reflects the strength of the regiment after the peace in Nystad 1721 (The Great Northern War) when Sweden ceded a major part of Viborg län and the southern part of Kexholm Län. This means that a major part of the territorial area the regiment had for its “rusthåll” drastically was reduced. The regiment therefore changed its name in 1724 from Viborg and Nyslott Län Cavalry Regiment to Karelian or Kymmenegård Dragoon Corps (Karelska- eller Kymmenegårds dragonkår). Prior to 1721 the regiment counted 1000 cavalrymen, but after 1721 only 730 organized into 6 companies. (See the table further down for the regiment’s allotments around 1700.) After the peace in Åbo in 1743 further land of the regimental territory was ceded to Russia. This time parts of Kymmenegård Län (the area east of the western branch of the Kymmene River) and parts of Savolax (Nyslott with adjoining areas of Savolax by Lake Saimen). After 1743 the regiment only counted 250 cavalrymen. The Karelia Dragoon Corps, 1721:
