Distribution of Rotar per Län, All Defense Branches, 1700 - Finland

inland was a part of Sweden up to 1809. During the era of the Allotment System regiments were also established in the Finland part of Sweden. Until 1809 Sweden consisted of 4 larger regions or "lands"; Götaland, Svealand, Norrland and Finland. In other words, Finland was up until 1809 one of four Swedish "lands" (landsdelar); a fully integrated part of Sweden. Län is a regional subdivision of Sweden and Finland and is normally translated into County in English. However, it should not be compared to the US county which is a local subdivision. Län = County The red figures shows the highest value per defense branch and county. As you can see in the table; Österbotten län had the highest number of "rotar" (infantry) while Åbo län had the most number of rusthåll (Cavalry).
