Introduction

This article illustrates the different types of uniforms used by the Swedish Army throughout the centuries. There is a subpage for each century beginning with the 17th century. These subpages are unfortunately only in Swedish. Describing uniforms isn't easy. It is a lot of special terms, often very old terms - terms not used today. To translate this into correct English won't be easy if you don't know the correct corresponding terms in English. However, the navigations links as well as headlines are both in Swedish and English so it is possible to navigate on the pages even if you don’t speak Swedish. Thereby you can navigate to the right uniform and study the images of the uniform in question. I will make a summary in English in the future though. The Swedish Army uniforms are identified by the year they were first issued. This is called year of model or model year. For example, if we take infantry uniform m/1860 it tells us that it was first issued in 1860.
