Rote Numbers Used per
Company - Södermanland
Regiment
When you are searching for a soldier in the military
sources, for example the General Muster Rolls
(GMR), it would be of great value to know which rote
numbers that were used by the different companies
in the regiment.
There were two series of rote numbers; one for the
entire regiment running from 1 to 1200 and another
one within each company running from 1 to 150.

In the general muster rolls the companies are listed in
order of rank and not in order of the company
number (and therefore not in order of the rote
numbers).
First in rank is the Colonel's Company (the Life
Company), then the Lieutenant Colonel's Company
and in third place the Major's Company.
During the last period of the Allotment System there
were also a Second Major's Company and a Third
Major's Company. These names were assigned two
companies and they were then moved upward in
order of rank.
Apart from the three first companies in rank, the
order of the companies could have varied over the
years.
