Combat Boats of Sweden - 1

Combat Boat 90 (Swe: Stridsbåt 90)

Combat Boat 90 (CB90) is a class of fast military assault craft used by several countries after being originally developed for the Swedish Navy by Docksta Shipyard, Sweden. The 90 in its name refers to the year of acceptance (1990). Combat Boat 90 comes in two sizes; the larger Combat Boat 90H and the smaller Combat Boat 90E.

Combat Boat 90E (Stridsbåt 90E)

Storebro Combat Boat 90E (CB90E) is an 11.9 meter-long shallow-draft boat with a plastic hull and waterjet, which was developed by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and Storebro Bruks AB as Combat boat 90E (Stridsbåt 90E). Combat boat 90E is smaller and lighter than the aluminum-hulled Combat boat 90H (CB90H). While the larger CB90H has two engines and is sized for 18 fully equipped soldiers (a half platoon, hence the "H"), the 90E has only one engine. The difference of 25 hp is not significant and was primarily designed to carry four patients on stretchers and two medics or 10 fully equipped soldiers. The 'E' stands for 'Enkel' (Swedish for "simple" (referring to a single engine). With its plastic hull, however, the CB90E has a few knots more speed, although a high speed can be difficult to maintain in rough seas. However, the radar on the CB90E is of lower capacity compared to the CB90H. The CB90E is built in carbon fiber reinforced vinyl-ester plastic in sandwich construction by Storebro. Despite its high top speed, the boat can go from full speed to a standstill in a distance less than its length. The Swedish Armed Forces purchased about 52 copies of the CB90E for the then Coastal Artillery's coastal ranger units, today the Amphibious Regiment. The Swedish Coast Guard has three CB90E serving as surveillance boats. From 2000 onwards, the Swedish Sea Search & Rescue Society has deployed 16 of them, which have been loaned by the Swedish Armed Forces. The The image shows CB90E 127. It is now part of the Veteran Flotilla at Gålö. Image: Wikipedia. The CB90E was originally intended to be used as a medical evacuation vessel and simple insertion craft for the Swedish Amphibious Corps, with 60 ordered and 54 delivered; today only 5 remain in Swedish military service. In most cases, the duties intended for the CB90E have been taken over by the larger CB90H. Specifications: Complement ? Passengers 10 In service 1991 - Displacement 7,200 kg Armament ? Length 11.9 m Beam 2.9 m Draught 0.7 m Propulsion 1 Scania V8-Diesel 625hp (water-jet powered) Speed 42 knots No. of vessels 54 (initially)

Combat Boat 90H (Stridsbåt 90H)

Combat Boat 90H (CB90H) is a class of fast military assault craft used by the Swedish Navy to carry and deploy troops and materiel and by the Amphibious Corps for combat in the archipelago. The CB90H (H stands for half platoon) takes 18 fully equipped amphibious infantry soldiers. The vessel is also available in the CB90HS version, where S stands for “Skydd” (protected). 90HS is shrapnel and NBC protected. Both the CB90H and CB90E are shallow-draft fast vessels, capable of around 40 knots, well suited to combat in archipelagos or river deltas. The CB90H can be equipped with two 12.7 mm machine guns in the bow (fired from the driver's seat), a 12.7 mm machine gun or a grenade launcher on the middle deck (fired by the gunner on deck), as well as naval mines and the amphibious battalion's M9 controllable mine system, or depth charges. The CB90H has an aluminum hull and twin water-jet engines. The armament normally consists of three heavy machine guns, but can also include a grenade launcher and rails for dropping naval mines and depth charges. The CB90H was developed at the Docksta shipyard. The vessels have undergone life extension, including the replacement of engines after 30 years of service. The CB90H replaced the older 200-type troopships. The images show CB90H 826 and 925. Image: Wikipedia. The CB90H is an exceptionally fast and agile boat that can execute extremely sharp turns at high speed, and decelerate from top speed to a full stop in 2.5 boat lengths. Specifications: Complement 3 or 2 (boat commander, driver, and mechanic) Passengers 18 I service 1991 - Displacement 13,300 kg (empty), 20,500 kg (max) Armament 3 × 12,7 mm machine gun M88, 40 mm grenade launcher M92, 4 naval mines M9, 6 depth charges Length 15.9 m Beam 3.8 m Draught 0.8 m Propulsion 2 Scania DI 13 of 700hp each (powered by water jets) Speed 40 knots No. of vessels 147 + 18

Combat Boat 90HSM

In 2017, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) ordered 18 new combat boats from Docksta Shipyard. These combat boats are a further development of the shrapnel-protected Combat Boat 90 HS series. The designation of these boats is Combat Boat 90HSM (the M stands for modernized). The CB90HSM has a renewed powertrain, Scania DSI13 V8 engines of 900 hp each, improved ballistic protection, and is equipped with SAAB's new Weapon Station 02 ("Trackfire"). As primary armament, Weapon Station 02 can be used with machine gun M88 and grenade launcher M92 and as secondary armament with machine gun M58. FMV handed over the first of the Combat Boat 90HSM to the Navy in October 2019. The image shows a CB90HSM. Image: Swedish Defense Materiel Administration. Transport Boat Major - 200 series

Transport boat Major (Transportbåt Större - TpbS), commonly called 200-boat, was a vessel used by the Swedish Navy for transporting troops and material in coastal missions. The boat can carry 40 combat-equipped soldiers and has bow ports for landing. The speed is 20 knots. The name 200-boat comes from the three-digit bow numbers starting with 2 that are painted on all 200-boats. The boat is mainly intended for transportation and landings but not for combat. The 200-boats were built between 1960-1987. The hull is made of steel and the boat can be driven up a bit on land because it is reinforced in the bow. The 200-boats are powered by propellers. The Navy's 200-boats were replaced in the 1990s by the Combat Boat 90H (CB90H) and Combat Boat 90E (CB90E). Specifications: Complement 3 or 4 (boat commander, driver, and mechanics) Passengers 40 + 4 ton cargo In service 1960 - 199?
